Jude Law was born in South East London on December 29, 1972, the second child of Peter and Maggie. After attending a local comprehensive school, he moved to a private school - Alleyn's in Dulwich. He discovered acting while performing in a school play and enrolled at the National Youth Music Theatre, appearing in their production of Joseph And his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. Later making his TV debut in a musical production of Beatrix Potter's The Tailor Of Gloucester. He dropped out of school at 17 to appear in Families, the popular daytime television soap opera from Granada. Throughout his early twenties he dedicated himself to theatre and after touring Italy in a production of Pygmalion he made his London debut in The Fastest Clock In The Universe. In 1992 he appeared in The Crane, a short film for the BFI and in 1993 starred in his first film, Shopping with Marianne Faithfull and Jonathan Pryce.
